How Can I Miss You if You Never Go Away?
Andy Davies, 2007
As part of an initiative to revitalize and beautify Galt Gardens by the Downtown Revitalization Steering Committee, this piece was commissioned to help engage integration and engagement with public art from inside the community: the three 22-foot flagpoles house three large shapes, a mask, a chair, and a whirl. However, the shapes are split into sections, making them malleable to the wind that constantly whirls through our world. This enables citizens and the wind to interact with the art and change how it looks, whenever the wind carries the whim to do so. The title is also a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the nature of wind in Lethbridge. There is also a tiny three-foot flagpole accompanying the other taller ones. This pole with a dog shape was specifically created to engage and encourage interaction, both young and old, with the city's public art.
